Towson Women’s Soccer Picks Up First Win of 2016

Towson_WSOC_PinkPHILADELPHIA – Coming out of the halftime break, the Towson University women’s soccer team dominated time of possession. That control ultimately led the game’s only goal as senior Natalia Pinkney put away the game-winner in the 51st minute.

Pinkney knocked home her second goal of the weekend as Towson (1-4-1) picked up its first win of the year at a sun-splashed Temple Sports Complex Sunday afternoon.

Shorewomen Strike Early in 2-1 Win Over Griffins

WashCollLogoCHESTERTOWN, Md. — Host Washington College scored twice in the first 10 minutes and controlled most of the game en route to a 2-1 non-conference women’s soccer victory over visiting Gwynedd Mercy this afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Shorewomen improved to 2-0 for the first time in 14 years with the victory, while the Griffins fell to 1-1 with the loss.

Sea Gulls start off strong by going 3-1 on opening day of SU Classic

SU-WSOC1SALISBURY Md. – The Salisbury University women’s soccer team took on Meredith College on Fridayafternoon for the first game of the Salisbury University Classic and the Gulls came out confident and strong, notching a 3-1 victory in non-conference action.

Sophomore Jenna Taylor opened her 2016 account for the Sea Gulls in the 19th minute when she calmly converted a beautiful pass from across the face of the goal from junior Ruthie Lucas. Lucas took a deflection towards the right side of the 18, beat a defender and threaded a ball between two Angel defenders to an on-rushing Taylor for a calm tap in to give Salisbury a 1-0 lead. CHESTERTOWN, Md. — Host Washington College scored four goals in each half en route to scoring their most goals in a game in 12 years as the Shorewomen defeated visiting Rosemont 8-0 in a non-conference women’s soccer game played tonight on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. It was the season opener for both teams.

New era of Sea Gull soccer begins with talented group in 2016

SUSeagullSALISBURY, Md. – First year head coach and Salisbury alumnus Alex Hargrove looks to usher in a new era of Salisbury University men’s soccer as he inherits a strong group of returners and a handful of youthful talent for his inaugural season.

Though his first season at the helm, the 2016 season marks Hargrove’s 11th season with the program as he was a four-year player and spent six seasons as an assistant coach for the Gulls.

Towson Weathers Red Storm to Draw With St. John’s

Towson_WSOC_PinkTOWSON, Md. – It would not be a women’s soccer game at Towson University if there wasn’t overtime. The Tigers played St. John’s University, which received votes in this week’s NSCAA Coaches’ Poll, to a 0-0 draw.

At a hot and muggy Tiger Soccer Complex, senior goalkeeper Taylor Sebolao recorded the eighth shutout of her Black & Gold career. She is one clean sheet shy of a three-way tie for fifth place at Towson. Yasmin Alter and Megan Lumsden recorded nine shutouts. Continue reading

UMBC Opens Season with 3-2 Double Overtime Win over American

UMBC v Amer1BALTIMORE, Md. – Freshmen Jamie Shiflett (Baltimore, Md. /Sparrows Point) and Nikki Saad (Hummelstown, Pa. /Lower Dauphin) kicked off their careers at UMBC with fireworks, helping the Dawgs to a 3-2 double overtime win over American on Friday night at Retriever Soccer Park.

In the 109th minute of the game, Shiflett was able to collect a pass from senior Preslie Quaranta (Baltimore, Md. /Perry Hall) on the outside corner of the box. From there, Shiflett knocked the ball toward the middle of the space and Saad took the liberty to calmly launch the ball toward the far post for the winning goal. Continue reading
