For the past two years Head Coach Al Oni of the Chesapeake Charge has been climbing to the top of the Women's Premiere Soccer League. He hopes the third time is the charm as the Charge prepare for their 2012 campaign. "This year we are younger, faster and hungry", said Oni, the 2011 WPSL Coach of the year. "We are trying to build on our success".

In 2010, the Charge's inaugural season, Oni quickly climbed to the top of the 60 team league. "We lost in the playoffs the first year, but kept working on improving", Oni said. The hard work paid off in 2010 as the Charge lost in the quarterfinals of the league and also won its way into the semifinals of the Women's Open Cup. Their dominance was evident only losing three games the entire season.
Built with local talent, Oni has built a regional powerhouse. "Most of our players are local, ranging from post-college players, to current college players, even some who play in high school." Boasting a strong midfield featuring Brittany Hadaway (Towson University), Lexi Niedoba (Mercy H.S., University of Maryland) and Erica Suter (Johns Hopkins) the Charge can move the ball around quickly as well as defend with quickness and strength. Forwards like Alexis Prior Brown (Mercy, University of Maryland), and Ashley Spivey (McDonough), both coming of high school season's where they reached All American honors, will give the Charge a dangerous spark and add some help for forward Kristin Schmidbauer.
