Advance to the NCAA tournament with 2-0 victory over St. Mary’s

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men’s soccer team won the Capital Athletic Conference championship with a 2-0 victory over St. Mary’s College of Maryland as a part of a physical match on a rainySaturday afternoon in front of a packed SU Soccer Complex.

With the shutout victory, Drew Staedeli and the Salisbury defense has not allowed a goal in 570 minutes of play, as the last goal they surrendered was in the 10th minute of their tie against Christopher Newport University. Also, with a six-save match for Staedeli, he now sits fifth all-time for career saves at Salisbury. Continue reading

Boston, Mass. – UMBC red-shirt sophomore goalkeeper Billy Heavner (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) is the America East Conference 2014 Fall Scholar-Athlete for the sport of men’s soccer, the conference office announced today.

BALTIMORE – UMBC senior forward Kay Banjo (Upper Marlboro, Md. /Largo/Towson Univ.) scored the equalizing goal in the 68’ as the 21st-ranked Retrievers rallied for a 1-1 double-overtime draw with Loyola (Md.) before 1,983 fans on Baltimore Soccer Night at Retriever Soccer Park.

The draw left both sides at 3-2-2 on the season. UMBC is now 3-1-1 versus Loyola in the last five meetings. Continue reading

It was a tough night for goalkeeper Melissa Barry (Sparta, NJ/Sparta HS) of Washington College as #9 Johns Hopkins launched a torrent of shots from all around the box.  Despite registering a career best in saves for the night, the Shorewomen would fall to the Blue Jays, 3-0.

The pressures began in the first half as Hopkins registered a 16-3 shot advantage over the Shorewomen.  With Barry continuing her tough net minding, having achieved a school record 8th career shutout last week against Rugters-Camden (ending in draw), the Shorewomen stayed the onslaught and held to a scoreless first half.   Continue reading
